Handel Junior
Animated film series and museum tour for children
in cooperation with Stiftung Händel-Haus in Halle (Saale)
The year is 1698, and the adolescent Georg Friedrich lives with his mother and his two sisters Dorothea (11) and Johanna (8) in Halle. Since the death of their father a year earlier, the siblings have been half-orphans. After a few months of mourning, however, life now offers the siblings many cheerful moments again. The scenes that tell of it take place in the (fictitious) living room, in the bedroom and in the attic of their house in Halle. And right there, in the same
rooms – only 323 years later – they can also be seen by young and old. The films on display are about everyday stories of a funny, inspiring, quite emotional family. And Georg, the promising young composer, makes music out of it. At the end of each scene, one he creates one of his well-known melodies. In addition to the three children, the old, rather unmusical house cat Mauz and a curious blackbird named Amselmann are also part of the party.
HANDEL JUNIOR spreads optimism, gives historical insights and playfully tells how melodies can be created by an up-and-coming composer. The young Georg is bursting with enthusiasm and appetite for action. With these stories we want to motivate the young visitors of the museum in Halle beyond the music. “Believe in yourself!” Georg would shout out, “Let yourself be inspired. Be interested and shape your own future!”
